I recently bought some new memory. When I put it in the second slot, my mac did not recognize it. When I swapped the original memory with the new, it didn't recognize the original memory. Any ideas? I think it is installed correctly it seems to fit and i can screw down the plate on the bottom..

Powerbook g4 15"

If you search around, you'll see that one of the updates for Tiger probably grilled the memory slot. Happened to my old AluBook 15" as well. AFAIK there's no free motherboard replacement for this issue - or it was only for some specific model which didn't include mine. I could be wrong, though - I've sold it off later on.

EDIT: Link of an earlier thread about it... -> http://www.macosx.com/forums/apple-...are-update-may-kill-your-lower-ram-slots.html

not the lower. Where can I find out what configuration the PB supports? The SDRAM I just bought is 1Gb and the older is 512. And again, how can I find out if I properly installed it?

You could try moving a chip that you are sure is working from one slot to the other. Use only that one chip for this test. Boot your PowerBook with that chip installed in one slot, then the other slot. That should tell you fairly sure that the slot is working, or not. Do a PRAM reset each time when booting for both tests.
