Secure FireWire Hard Dirve

I have a LaCie Firewire HD and I want to be able to secure the Hard Drive itself so that people who have a firewire connection can't just plug it in and get access to all of my data. Because it is a 160GB drive I don't want to have to encript the data just be able to protect it with a password.

And does anybody know of a way to resrict access to individual folders so when you open them you have to put a password in.

You could use an encrypted dmg file. Simply make a disk image in DiskUtility most of the size of your firewire HD, and give it a password. It opens very quickly and once open no need to decrypt all the other files - it just acts like a normal drive. Just make sure you don't use a compressed dmg as these take a while longer to open.

Or, make an encrypted sparseimage that will grow proportionally with the data you put into it -- that way, you're not locked into a fixed-size disk image.
