hi i hav liknsyroutrz
how fix?

Heh, figured I would start a question the usual Newbie Does Not Read Sticky [Tm.--Ed.] fashion!
OR I CUD HAV USED T3H DEADLY ALLCAPS!!11
Anyways, I want to see if I can secure this old wireless router so Evil Commies do not steal my . . . whatever it is!
Right:
Computer: Macbook 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM, OS 10.5.7
Router Linksys BEFSX41 ver 2
This was given to me by a friend--works better, currently, than a newer version. The answer may be "you cannot, fat pig!"
When you go to the router page--http://192.168.1.1--you can password protect your router in that some other slob should not be able to change settings. You can, for this router do the following:
Searching, I read a number of older posts HERE and ELSEWHERE that state Mac does not "like" WEP which can be--according to what I read--easily broken. Most recommend WAP or something like that.
So . . . dealing with what we have, you can see I make WEP mandatory, set a password, and this is what happens. Network does not recognize it as "locked"--though it will show up as locked--but it will require the password.
Unfortunately, when you put in the password, it "times out."

So I try doing it through the Network--set WEP Password. The results are much the same depending on whatever choice I use, either it does not "hold"--lock--or the damned thing times out.
So . . . is it just impossible? Am I missing something that does not involve, "get a REAL router you scum!"?
