Security Update

I have just downloaded and installed Apple's latest PowerPC security update.

Now when I start up the computer, the screen goes black and a series of lines flow down the screen as if I had started in 'fsck'. Eventually the log-in window shows.

Also my screen locks after the screensaver comes on, despite having unchecked the "Require password to wake this computer from sleep" in System Preferences/Security.

I don't mind all this if it's normal. However I am curious to know why it should be happening.

Doesn't seem normal to me. I installed the update on two machines and they are working as before. G4 iBook & G4 Quicksilver.

Yes, I installed it on my G4 towers and it doesn't do that. Did you "Repair Permissons" before and after installing the update? Try doing it now.

My intel MacBook also works as before, so this is definitely not intended behaviour.

1.) Start up from your installation DVD. Let Disk Utility repair your volume.
2.) Reboot into Mac OS X. Let Disk Utility repair permissions. Reboot.
3.) Reapply the security update (i.e. get the separate download).

See if anything works.

Thanks for the advice. However, it doesn't look good.

I did the above. No change. Then did an Archive Install. No change. Then a Erase and Install. No change.

See attached picture (sorry for the quality). Wierd problem!
