Seeing external drive on a network...

A simple one for you gurus....

Gotta laptop that uses windows. Over the network, I can see my Mac home - no problem. I want to be able to back up my laptop, over the network, to an external hard drive attached to my mac. How do I get to see it in windows?

Thanks.

In the Mac open System Preferences->Sharing and open Windows file sharing. The on the Mac download Sharity (because OS X file sharing is limited by security design) to share the whole external drive.

Then on your Windows XP machine buy MacDrive because Windows machines don't mount/write to native Mac HFS Extended disks.

When you do all this, your Windows XP machine will have no problem access that drive.

I've been wresting with sharity for a while but I'm not bright enough to figure out what I'm supposed to do. I have finnaly had to give up and come back to this forum with my hat in my hands. I have failed. Can someone guide me through what I need to do? I read this in the read me file:

"Welcome to Sharity 3 on Mac OS X!

Sharity is a network file system client. "Client" means that it is used to access remote file resources (shares) in the network, it does not provide network access to your local resources for others."

Well, that sounds bad. That's kinda what I want to do. Am I barking up the wrong tree here?

Thanks again Satcomer.
I use vnc on my mac already but it's creating a share on a volume that I can access on windows that I'm struggling with.
