Select Apps Freezing

Over the past 2 months or so, some select applications freeze after I launch them. When it freezes it'll be because I clicked something in the application. This only effects certain apps. like Firefox works and so does Word, but other things like Text Edit, Preview, and Adium (a chat program) will freeze. To add another twist to all of this, when I leave my computer on for 3 days (having it sleep at night) these programs will begin to work again, but as soon as I restart or shut down, they will not work again and begin to freeze. I have an iMac with Mac OS X 10.2.8. I've been searching the internet for some time now and have yet to come up with anyone with similar problem to mine. Thank you so much.

Have you tried running Disk Utility's "Repair Disk" option while booted from the OS X install discs?

Also, have you tried repairing permissions on the main hard drive?

Having similar problems, just really getting stuck in, try creating new user account, I’ve started with some success. Secondly it could be a font problem, try font fingaler, (think that’s what it’s called) to clear and clean the font cache then restart and see how you go

To address both replies, I did both with no luck but I will definitly try a different font and create different user. Thanks and I'll get back with what happens.
