hi,
i'm trying to send mail from the shell, from a perl script that does my backups, and i'm not getting anywhere. i want to mail myself if the backup fails. in trying to trace it, mailx -v, which should display on the terminal what is going on, says it is sending the mail to my user name, and it never appears, so it seems i've lost my main diagnostic tool.
can anyone give me a hand?
btw, my backups are a perl script that writes to a firewire drive. works fine except for the mail part to alert me of failures, but what to other people do? are there packages out there, freeware or otherwise that people recommend?
thanks,
mickm
