Could someone point me to some instructions on setting up ftp on my computer with only one user(me) or you could just tell me how. And what precautions should i take and all that jazz

thanx for any help

Assuming that
- You're running some version of Mac Os X
- You already have an account set up for yourself
- There aren't any other accounts set up on your mac that you want locked out of FTP.
- You have a working network
- You don't need heavy-duty cryptography to keep the spies out.

THEN
Simply go to System Preferences, and go to the Sharing pref-pane. In pre 10.2 versions there is a button to start-stop FTP services. In 10.2 there is a checkbox next to FTP Services.
Once this is in done, you will be able to use a client computer to connect to your mac via FTP. All you'll need is the IP address, your 'short' login name (check under Users if you're not sure) and your password. Voila! You are connected!
As for precautions, if it is only for yourself you shouldn't have too much to worry about. If you are setting up accounts for other people you will want to restrict them to their home directories, do a search for "FTP" and "chroot jail" on the board and you'll find it. FTP will obey all the unix permissions you've set, so if a user can't access a file through OS X, they won't be able to access it over FTP either.
It really is one of those things that, in this case, is so simple it almost seems TOO easy.
