I solved this problem about 2 1/2 years ago and now I cannot remember what I had done. I have a Laserwriter select 360 printer and I connect it directly to my computer's USB via a USB to Parallel adapter cable. A few days ago my printer stopped responding to my computer. I looked in the printer list and saw that the computer did not recognize the printer anymore and I see: Product Unknown and driver not installed.
When I confronted this problem in the past I had read a post somewhere that involved a trick in setting up the printer in the print list as well as the order in which the parallel plug and USB plug where connected.
Need help.
