I keep getting this as I have installed Photoshop 3 elements on the new computer I keep getting

Photoshop Elements version 3 is pretty old (2004). Adobe says that probably will have unfixable issues when used with OS X 10.5 or newer.

The fix is to update to a newer version (Adobe would like you to give them more money, I guess), or move to some alternative for photo editing.

If you meanwhile need a free Adobe-free alternative, you could give a try to MacGIMP.
