Severe Probs w/ Jaguar

Awaiting Panther
Well, here I am, posting from my trusty Powermac 7200 with os 8.6 and a 500 meg hard drive.. why? Because my 700 mhz G3 iMac won't boot up. Here's what happens.. 1) For one second, it has the blinking question mark on folder icon 2) It then goes to the Apple icon with the dash wheel loading thing.. it then 3a) does nothing and keeps spinnning 3b) goes to the loading screen, which takes awhile, and then 4a) goes to the multicolor spinning wheel of death in the left hand corner of my screen with a blue background or 4b) goes into darwin, where I have to log in, and put exit, which then proceeds to login (this has happened twice out of many futile attempts)

Does anyone know my problem and what I can do about it?

---Just a quick observation---

This type of thread, with a subject sounding like "I have a severe problem with Jaguar" have been COUNTLESS those last days, don't you think ? Maybe it's just a false observation of me because I come every day and I see 20 times the same thread, but I really think Jaguar has been a source of MANY crashes, boot problems, etc. since its release, for many people (though it's PERFECT at home).

What's going on ?

---end of observation---

1) Boot in single user mode (Command-S down at startup), and type in "fsck". Then type "reboot".
2) Reinstall Jaguar.
3) If you can, and if the previous solutions did not work, wipe the whole disk and install Jaguar a last time. Last, I hope...
