Share internet connection (Win XP) to a Mac ?

I am at a new place and I can't get DSL installed for another 2 weeks, so in the meantime I bought a wireless broadband EVDO USB device.

The EVDO USB device is plugged to my Windows XP laptop. I have another Windows Vista laptop and two G4 PowerBooks.

How do I share the internet connection with the Macs ? All four laptops are connected to a wireless homeportal (2Wire 1701HG).

Thanks for any info on this.

We have the same problem...I am waiting on my internet connection which is DSL and it's almost 1 month since I don't have my connection in so I bought ymax for about $10 but the internet is not that good. but however I can communicate other people even my connection is low.

What is ymax ?

I saw instructions on how to create an ad-hoc network to share internet connection. The instructions were for sharing an ethernet internet connection through the laptop's integrated wireless card.

I thought this would work, but it didn't. Although I was able to create a wireless ad-hoc network and the laptops could connect just fine, the internet connection just could not be shared.

Can someone confirm if an EVDO USB modem internet connection can be shared via an ad-hoc wireless network?

WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, Inc.) same as Wifi.

WiMAX is a wireless digital communications system, also known as IEEE 802.16, that is intended for wireless "metropolitan area networks". WiMAX can provide broadband wireless access (BWA) up to 30 miles (50 km) for fixed stations, and 3 - 10 miles (5 - 15 km) for mobile stations. In contrast, the WiFi/802.11 wireless local area network standard is limited in most cases to only 100 - 300 feet (30 - 100m).

With WiMAX, WiFi-like data rates are easily supported, but the issue of interference is lessened. WiMAX operates on both licensed and non-licensed frequencies, providing a regulated environment and viable economic model for wireless carriers.

WiMAX can be used for wireless networking in much the same way as the more common WiFi protocol. WiMAX is a second-generation protocol that allows for more efficient bandwidth use, interference avoidance, and is intended to allow higher data rates over longer distances.

The IEEE 802.16 standard defines the technical features of the communications protocol. The WiMAX Forum offers a means of testing manufacturer's equipment for compatibility, as well as an industry group dedicated to fostering the development and commercialization of the technology.

WiMax.com provides a focal point for consumers, service providers, manufacturers, analysts, and researchers who are interested in WiMAX technology, services, and products. Soon, WiMAX will be a very well recognized term to describe wireless Internet access throughout the world.

But mine is not legal no password and can directly connect on the signal of the satellite.

Ahh i played with this alot so u have a router and a wireless card hooked up to the same computer i spent many hours getting this to work.

On the windows PC the first thing you want to do it go to network connections right click on your internet connection and go to properties and in there there will be a network setup wizard go throught that setup select that this computer connects to the internet other computers connect through it and then pick the wireless card as the source for internet let that run. when it is done open up your specific router control panel and set up everything u need setup up wireless security ect cause after u do this it wont let u access it anymore unless you reset the router. once all is set up turn the dhcp server off on your router this lets windows issue the ip address's if u dont do this they are both trying to do it and it causes a problem reboot all and enjoy all your computers will work on the router just like it was hooked up to a modem

been steeling wifi for months also on the windows pc go to run and type services.msc find the program named server stop that program and set it to disabled in the properties keep the lest technically advanced from seeing you on there network although isnt neccasry
