Shared library error message

My husband downloaded a bunch of programs that take a ton of memory and power on my iBook G4 (runs on OSX). Since he's done this, I cannot open Go Live or AppleWorks (which I desperately need). Every time I try to open the programs, I get an application error message that states that the program cannot open becuase of a shared library error. I've searched mac.com and my own computer help, but I cannot find anything to fix the problem. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks so much!

Tell the turkey to get his own Mac and leave yours alone. At least that is what my wife did. I now keep my hands off her Mac unless I have her explicit permission -- I have grown too accustomed to my head being perched at the top of my neck to do otherwise. :D

It would help to know specifically what library the messages say is missing, but I suspect it is the CarbonLib as that is the most common cause of this error.

The first and easiest thing to try is launching Disk Utility and Repairing Permissions. This is not a bad prophylactic procedure after any install, update, or upgrade. Do not be alarmed by any messages during the process that begin with the phrase "Using special permissions...". Those can all be safely ignored.

If that doesn't correct the problem, reinstalling Appleworks probably will. Let us know what happens.

Thanks, Professor. I tried the disk utility repair, but that didn't work. I finally deleted my husband's programs to see if that would help, but that didn't work, either. I can't reinstall Appleworks because my computer came with the programs already installed and didn't included the actual disks of the programs. I think I'm just going to have to take it to an Apple store near my house to get help. Thanks so much for your help, though. I really appreciate it because I'm sure you all probably get the same posts over and over again.
