shares not mounting on login

i have samba mounts coming from my linux machine, mounted them fine, etc. and put them in the login items area (i.e. just dragged and dropped them there). they show up as folders so great, i go to logout and when i log back in one shows up as unknown and the other shows up as a folder, however, neither of them actually show up on my desktop. has anyone else had this problem in 10.2.4 and anyone know what i'm doing wrong?

i know it's not a password problem b/c i can just go to the go menu then previous folders and it'll connect for me w/o a problem.

There's a little app out there called AFP Automount. Search on versiontracker for it. It will take care of this issue - I believe it invokes an applescript to mount the drives rather than relying strictly on resolving aliases. Works like a charm for me.
