Sherlock won't open

Sherlock won't start.

On the Dock it highlights, but doesn't bounce. In the Applications folder, double-clicking makes the rectangular boxes spring out, but Sherlock doesn't appear.

I checked the processes that are running, but can't find Sherlock. Any suggestions? Help? Explanations?

Does a reboot fix it? Sometimes I boot up and I get this, reboot and everything works. This only happens on my work Mac, never my home one. *shrug*. If a reboot doesn't fix, do you want someone to send you a new Sherlock?

I had this same problem pre-OS 10.1. I believe it was with 10.0.4. Couldn't figure it out, and I'm no dumbass when it comes to Macs, either -- a re-format and re-install fixed it, and it's been peachy since then. Still couldn't ever trace the problem.

I'd click Sherlock, and it would highlight but not bounce. Navigating to the finder produced the same effect -- just couldn't get it to launch no matter what!

I believe you can probably re-install OS X over your OS X installation and that would fix it, too...

I've logged in as other users and Sherlock doesn't work with them either.

I've also done the restart as well as completely turn the Mac off, and it still won't work.

Thanks for the reinstall info. I was hoping that it wouldn't have to come to that, but, oh well.

What seems weird about this is that I haven't heard of this happening on other Unix/unix based systems. I used other Unix systems and this hasn't happened at all. I thought that most of the Mac programs were converted over to Unix. Maybe Sherlock isn't completely Unix based.

There's an application called Pacifist that will allow you to open the MacOS X package installer (PKG file) and yank out just the Sherlock application package. This will help if the Sherlock application has become corrupted, which may be the case.

Downloaded the program, found the package, extracted it. Sherlock works now. Thanks for your help.
