Should I upgrade to 10.3?

has a mac beyond repair
10.3 has been out for AWHILE and I unfortunately got stuck with 10.2.8 when I got this Powerbook. To run some apps and games, it wants 10.3. This ticks me off because Im concerned that if I get 10.3, 10.4 is gonna be released within a few months.

Is it worth it to upgrade? Anyone wanna sell me the 10.3 upgrade for cheap or something? (Maybe you got a family pack of licenses?)

What should I do? I really feel like I should wait for 10.4

Either upgrade now, or wait for 10.4.1. The first release of a system always includes "surprises".

For my machines, (400 MHz G3 and 1 GHz G4) 10.3 is far better than 10.2

If you need/want to run the programs that are asking for Panther, get it. Tiger won't be out before late November at very best, and .1 will be a month after that. Thats at least 5 months of suffering...

Even if you buy them both at full price, over the life of Tiger's usefulness (at least a year) it's less than the price of a cup of coffee a day... ;)

Don't you have to upgrade to Panther and then Tiger after that, thereby negating the cost savings? (I just don't know, haven't ever upgraded X; first comp had 10.1 and second comp had 10.2 installed.) \:)

I would never recommend such os updates eventhough they are offered. Doing a fresh new install is still the best. I remember a lot of threads on panther and ppl that updated from jaguar..

No, you can install Tiger when it's released without first having Panther installed.

As Zammy says, you'll be much better off, regardless of whether you install Panther or wait for Tiger, to do a fresh install.
