Shuffle Question

Just sold my 20gb 3rd gen ipod and I'm looking to buy a 1gb shuffle, anyone got one? I've heard that itunes puts random songs on the ipod is this true or can you put the songs onto it manually :confused:

Also what the battery life like as I fly to NYC from England next week and have a 10 hours round flight (to Amsterdam then to JFK)

You can put songs onto the shuffle manually. The battery life is excellent. Wonderful gadget.

P.S. However, if you're planning to listen to a lot of Audible books, you're better off getting an iPod mini - fast forwarding through Audible books on a shuffle is a pain.
 
Keep in mind that you probably won't get more than 5 hours of unique songs onto an iPod Shuffle, so you mightn't like listening to it on the plane. Regardless of battery life.

realistically how long will the battery last, will it charge from the USB 2.0 slot?
 
Also another thing, I presume that you can only format it for one on either PC or Mac like other ipods?

One way around this would be to store one or more Audible books on the shuffle - lots more listening time per megabyte (as long as you don't want to fast forward, it's all good). :)

Don't really know how long the battery lasts, because it's never run out on me. Significantly longer than your previous iPod at any rate.

It charges from the USB port.

Depends what you mean by "format". You can only transfer music onto the shuffle from one computer at a time (I think). However, you can use the shuffle as a USB drive freely between as many computers as you want.

On my old ipod the instructions said that the ipod could only be used on either windows or osx machines, e.g if I use the ipod on my mac I couldn't plug it into a windows machine and use it as it would be 'formated' to mac and their for could only be used on macs? :confused:

No such thing for the shuffle.

You can only sync music from one computer, but it won't be reformatted if you plug it into other computers (i.e. if you're using it as a USB drive to transfer files between computers), unless you try and sync music with the other computer.

Bought my 1gb ipod tonight and I've gotta say it's fantastic, I find the bass better than my 20gb ipod, alos it's so much more practical with it being small and lighter, even when I had it around my neck it didn't get in the way.

I prefer it far more than my 'big' ipod :)
