Shut Down problem on Powerbook... please help

Hey! What's going on everyone? Maybe some of you can help me out with this problem as I have been searching for an answer for awhile and no luck. Anyway, I have a Powerbook G4 running Mac OS X version 10.4.6. And for as long as I can remember, when I want to shut down my computer it will shut down fine and I'll close the lid. Within a few hours it starts running again even with the lid closed and when I open a blank screen appears but I can hear it running. The only way of getting my Powerbook to start back up is by holding down the power button to manually shut it down, and then hitting the power button again for startup. I'd just like to get this resolved a.s.a.p if possible because if I can't figure it out, I'll need to send it back to Apple soon because my 1 year service is almost up in a week or so. Thanks for your help in advance... It is much appreciated!

My best guess here with out being able to see just what it is doing and how. Would be that you may have a bad PMU if so do send it back ASAP to Apple to get it fix. Other wise it will cast big $$$ to get fixed.
