Shutting down

Please help! I've never posted here before, but I wasn't sure where to get help. All of a sudden, I can not shut down my computer. If I switch to another user I can shut it down. I have OSX 10.3.2. I seem to remember having the same problem with OSX 10.2. I could just create a new user and use that, but then I will have problems accessing files that were created under my current user name. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Did you move your Library data from your 10.2 to 10.3?
Can't you create a new account and move your personal data to that and simply delete the damaged one? This would be easiest than trying to figure out, on which Programm Preferences this lies.

Log into the user name you want to use and then go to Applications>Utility and start Disk Utility. You need to verify and repair permissions
