Simple database program needed

I am looking for a simple little database program for Mac Intel. Search engines have produced only the large, business-class type databases. Is there no such thing as a small database for Mac? A cardex-type program would be fine.

If you're just using the "Database" to store contact information, why not just use Apple's Address Book? It's going to give you all kinds of great flexibility like the option to export into a common format for sharing with others, ability to print labels on all kinds of different label formats, ability to search and filter, ability to group, etc.

If you're looking for a true database with a decent user interface, go for FileMaker Pro.

I am a bit leery of using an operating system's official address book because of the possibility of malware using it for spamming or worse.

FileMaker Pro is a business-class database. It is overkill for what I want to do.

There's no known exploit for Address Book concerning spamming-issues etc.

Thanks for the suggestions. I found what I was looking for. It is called Register, a simple little database program. It is free, too.

I had a database with about 2000 records (including two date fields) in it that I've been gradually adding to since 1994, using FileMaker in OS 9. My beautiful new MacBook Pro won't run OS 9, so I had to switch.

I just downloaded Register from the developer's site, http://www.norrkross.com/ and imported the data via a tabbed file. it worked beautifully. The little database, "Register" is beautifully thought-out. It looks like it stores the data in XML. Totally recommended. I sent him $20 in thanks.

It also has rudimentary relational capabilities.

Good luck. But you may have just "bought" malware. You get what you pay for.

FileMaker sells a stripped down program called Bento for $49 - plus apps for iPad and iPhone.

Whitehill:

I bought the software, Norkross Register, from the author, Martin Wennerberg (of Norkross Software) five years ago and since then have used the database every single day on my work Mac.

Over the years I've have sent him questions about it and gotten very helpful answers.
