Site Icons in Firefox

It all started at 3......
Hi guys,

You know when you're browsing the net using Firefox on OS X, when you look into your browser address bar there is a wee icon just left of the url, it also appears next to each site title in your favourites list. I was just wondering how do you change this icon? On most sites it's just got the globe icon, but on others it has been changed - how do they do this?

Thanks.

Ian

By making a "favicon.ico" file (it doesn't have to be named exactly that, but that's the most common name) and placing it in the root directory of their web server, than adding a tiny bit of code to their web page. If the "globe" icon appears, it means they don't have a favicon file, or the code is incorrect.

GraphicConverter can take image files and make favicon files from them. There are size and color depth restrictions to keep in mind, though.

If you're interested in making one yourself for your own web page, do a google search for "making favicon" and you should get a ton of tutorials on the subject.
