SKYPE: Friend or Foe?

Hey everyone, wish I could do a poll so let me please ask this straight out since there seems to be conflicting experiences about stability, intereference on other programs and system vulnerability:

Do you like Skype on your Mac or not?

Please comment why/why not?

'Please comment why/why not?' - it works; and, is even cross platform.

I prefer Gizmo because it uses a lot less RAM on my old BondiMac.

I've got a personal grudge with how everybody needs to invent yet another messaging client and protocol. I've stayed away of Skype so far because of that. I want an interoperable text/voice/video chat standard to be used by everyone. I don't want to either have to convert all my contacts to one service or instead have to open three or more applications bothering me all the time.

I agree with Fryke. I only use MSN and Skype - I dont like Yahoo, AIM, MSN, Skype, Mercury and who knows what all open at the same time - its really bothering...

Hm...
I use most of the time Adium but using only AIM/.mac (and jabber with internal networks while at work).
And skype for phoning selected people that don't bother using AIM ...

I use Skype because:
it was one of the first one to let me call home (normal phone) when I travel
it was one of the first to be compatible Mac/PC
it has one of the best CODEC
it was agreed by my company for use on my company PC (MSN and Yahoo are not because too dangerous - virus - and polluting the Registers)

My only complain: it is not iChat compatible.
