That's right, the newest release of Slackware, version 10.1, is ready to go. My sincere thanks go out to everyone who helped out this time around when I really needed it. Highlights of the 10.1 release include the Linux 2.4.29 kernel (with Linux 2.6.10 as an alternate choice in /testing), X11R6.8.1 from X.Org, Mozilla 1.7.5, KDE 3.3.2, and Xfce 4.2.0. For a complete list of changes since Slackware 10.0, check out the Slackware 10.1 ChangeLog.

I know, it was released on Feb 6 but better late than never

What this has to do with Macs I have no idea... ;)

Anyways, I downloaded it as well. However, I haven't had a chance to install it. Looks as though GNOME is going to be left up to the Dropline team.

What I would LOVE to see is a PPC version of Slackware. There was Slackintosh, but that's kind of died.

I wouldn't mind partaking in porting it over, but I don't have the time with two kids and a wife to take this on by myself, nor do I know where to start. :p Maybe those of us Macheads who love the Slack might want to take on this task?? That way it's available to use on our aging Mac hardware. :D

Just being curious are either of you active at linuxquestions.org? (I used to be but only hang around the time of version releases now.)

No but I've been looking for a good linux forum, I'll definately check it out.

And it doesn't have anything to do with Apple per se but I know there are a few slackfans around here...though they probably already knew about the release ;)

LinuxQuestions is where I go for all of my Linux questions. I haven't been around much lately, though. The site seems to have gotten huge since then, and the atmosphere has changed slightly. I'm the one who wrote the LinuxQuestions search plugin for Firefox.

I would highly recommend it.

I liked it when I went there regularly (2-3 years ago). It is still the best Linux site I know of but does not quite have the tight group of vets it used to (tinkster, trickykid, aussie...). I do not even recognize a lot of the active posters now, they seem.... younger. I guess everything changes over time.

Definitely still the board I recommend for any Linux user but especially Slack users. It has a very active Slackware forum.

I head there from time to time when I have a question that needs answering. I have only needed to post a question once since most of the time someone else has already asked the question. It was one of the best places to get answers on Slackware.

I also visit my local Linux user group here in Miami called MiaLUG (http://mialug.org). There's a lot of diversity in the distros used by the members there, myself included. Hopefully I can make it to the next meeting, along with my Debian/PPC system. ;)
