This appears to be a well documented problem, but not real solution.
I have a Matshita DVD-R UJ-835E which does not perform nearly as fast as a protable Plextor drive I use with my PC. So, what do I do...
From what I can tell there is a firmware update from Apple http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/superdrivefirmwareupdate.html but it is very vague about what this update will achieve... nor can I find anyone who has used it and seen a difference. Alternatively there is a 3rd party firware hack, but I'm reluctant to use this.
What can you recommend and is there a solution? Or dare I say, has Apple not delivered on its promise of a 8x Superdrive? Does Apple need to replace my Powerbook?
