So, Call me Mr. Scrooge! Just get me wireless!

Probably the wrong day for such a question, with the WWDC starting today, but - what the hell! I'm getting ready for a shopping spree and planning is the mother of frugality.

I have two emacs and an ibook and I want to go wireless - at least for the book. So I could get just an airport card and leave the other two wired, or - for the same price - could get three usb dongles and set everyone free. (it's for use on a dsl home network) (yeah! dsl in egypt!)

So to anyone who knows, how do the dongles rate? Are they as fast as the card? Do they have comparable range? Are they cumbersome on an iBook?

I only have usb1.1. Is that going to be an issue?

You will need a base for the cards to get a signal. You could have one machine hard wired & equipped with an antenna to send out signal and the others wireless.

As for a USB wireless, I personally have not used one, but I know that D-Link and Belkin make good products.

Yeah, for the base station I'll probably go with a d-link or a linksys, depending on what's on sale. I am finally able to get dsl and we'll share it with the neighbors. They will use the wire. ;)

but I wonder about the range and reliability of the usb
