Hi guys, I'm treating my beloved Powermac to some early Christmas presents and need your opinion, which should I go for?

1. Harman Kardon Soundsticks ll
2. JBL Creature ll & iLife05 (works out little cheaper than the Soundsticks)

Since buying my Powermac and buying Tiger I have missed iLife05 and plus I would like to get a .mac account sometime soon so I think option 2 would be the best, I know the SSll's are suppose to be better than the JBL's but their £129.99 opposed to £59.99 for the JBL's so I doubt they'll be worth about £70 more?

The have read here and there that some users have been having problems (on and off) with the SoundSticks. I have the Creatures and for a 2.1 system, the sound is good.

What exactly have you heard Satcomer?

I think I'm gonna get the JBL's even though I've never heard the difference between them.

It had to do with the sub that came with the SoundSticks. I just have read over time that users have had issues with the sub going silent during certain OS X Updates. For me I can't figure out why a sub would cut off but not the speakers.

I have the Harmon Kardon sound sticks with the sub, and have experienced no trouble with them. Then again my friend has the JBLs, and he likes them. My opinion is both are a nice sound system, and it more than likely is a preference.

IMO, the JBL has a poor sound. very nice bass, and very crisp treble, but i find it very irritating, there is just NO midrange what so-ever. it gets very piercing after a bit. i have not tried the soundsticks, but the extra speaker cones, and the bigger overall size of each one has to give a better sound. the sattelites on the JBL are tiny, very tiny, and this accounts for the lack of mid.

no, instead, i would go for these:

200watts, and very nicely used. £120 from logitechs online store. my friend has these and they are amazing, crisp treble, plenty of mid (the sattelites are a decent size, and weight) and a HUGE sub. these can go VERY loud, i warn you. the best sound quality i have heard in while. well worth it. they almost sound better than my £500 set up, and they definately go louder. a big chunky seperate volume control too, with an additional bass controller.

iLife '05 - don't bother if you have '04. really not much difference, wait till '06, which is rumoured to be a big update.
