I just got a MBA and I was removing a pdf doc that was in the the Documents stack on the Dock when it went "poof" and disappeared. I was had downloaded the pdf and moving it from the desktop to the Documents stack and then decided to put it back on the desktop. Other than moving the icon for it I did not do anything. I have no idea how to get it back - any suggestions?

You only get the "poof" when you remove an icon, at least, that's how it's working for me. You probably just took the folder off the dock. It should still be in /users/you/folder (downloads?)

That did it! Thanks a lot. I have been a Windows guy for many years and this is my first Mac. It has been a trying experience. I keep having ghost urges to right click for the app menu but there is no such thing in the Mac world (that I know of). I wish there was some guide on how to navigate through all the differences.

There's a lot of really good books out for OS X, like Pogue's "The Missing Manual" (I have not read that one, but I hear it's good). You should be flying in no time with some basic introductions to the system. Apple also has some nice info for "switchers" here:
http://www.apple.com/support/switch101/

Also, you can right click by holding control and clicking, or by using your favorite 2-button USB mouse, but it's not quite the same as Windows.

Have fun!
