something apple overlooked in jaguar?

OS X Jaguar
have you noticed that sometimes, the spinning black and white beachball cursor appears under jaguar? yuk!

I hated this for years using the mac... :(

did apple forget to ditch this beast?

I figured they missed it or something? LOL

The black and white ball is what happens in Carbon based apps when the CPU is busy, the pretty colored ball is from Cocoa apps. So, basically, anytime you see the black/white ball, it's a crappy old carbon app :)

That close, btoneill, but not quite correct.

The black and white cursor is what a poorly written Carbon app will give you when it's stuck in the main event loop. This is given by the app itself, signifying that it is still responsive, but is written to not allow you do do anything while its working.

The color cursor is given by the kernel itself when the app has stopped responding to input for two seconds. This is given on the lowest level possible. When you are given this cursor, absolutely nothing can be done with that app.

So, you can actually get both the black and white and the color cursor in some carbon apps. Though, you *should* never get the black and white one at all.
