Sonnet Announces OS X Compatibility

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA — June 26, 2000. Sonnet Technologies, Inc., the worldwide market share leader in processor upgrade cards for Apple Macintosh™ computers, announces compatibility with future operating systems for its CPU upgrade customers. Sonnet joins the list of Macintosh developers who have pledged their commitment to supporting Apple’s release of OS X.

“Sonnet is pleased to announce that our Crescendo PCI and Encore ZIF CPU upgrades will be compatible with OS X,” announced Robert Farnsworth, President and CEO of Sonnet. “We encourage customers of these products to visit our website later this summer for additional information and any software that may be available for download.” Crescendo PCI solutions include G3 and G4 models running up to 500 MHz, and use the processor direct slot (PDS) in PCI-based Macintoshes. The Encore line includes G3 and G4 upgrades up to 500 MHz, and support beige and blue and white G3s as well as G4 desktops. All products in both of these lines are covered by this announcement.

A statement on OS X compatibility is pending for Sonnet’s Crescendo NuBus, PowerBook and L2 product lines, which all currently support system software through OS 9. “Sonnet has made many breakthroughs in bringing compatibility with new OS releases to older systems,” said Farnsworth. “Most recently, we were the first to deliver OS 9 compatible G3 and G4 processor upgrades to a wide range of older Mac models. We will continue our commitment to extending OS support to older machines upgraded with Sonnet products to the greatest extent technically possible.” Sonnet will post information, software and other compatiblity data on its website as it becomes available.
