sony cybershot p1 not working with OS X

Hi,
Just purchased a Sony DSC P1 because it says that OS X supports it. Shown in the list of Iphoto cameras suppported. But when I plug it in via the supplied usb A->B cable, I get this error.

"You have inserted a disk containing no volumes that Mac OS X can read. To use the unreadable volumes, click Initialize. To continue with the disk inserted, click Continue"

Well I tried to initialize (which I knew would not work. it didnt.) I am looking for any help anybody can offer. thanks
 
Even if anybody knows of a site or a group that might be able to help me resolve this problem, that would be great. Thanks everybody
