New to Macs, but just got first iMac8,1 OSX 10.5.4
I can't get it see see my old, but perfectly good Sony Camcorder. I have set up bootcamp and when booted to XP it finds the camera perfectly and can capture the video. I assume therefore that the camera, firewire cable and hardware are all ok. It must be the lack of a driver. I have looked but can't find one. This is slightly frustrating as one of the reasons for getting a Mac was that I was told it was fantastic for AV work.

Not sure if this is relevant, but I had a similar issue with a Sony still camera. I solved my issue with a software upgrade on the camera, not a driver on the computer.

Doesn't seem that there are any software upgrades for your model though :(

Does the camcorder work if you enable it from within iMovie or iDVD?

Does it link via the application "Image Capture"? This is the way that iPhoto gets to open automatically when you connect a still camera. Go to Applications/Image Capture/Preferences and see what's selected to open.

I can't get it to work with direct connection to the Mac in any application. However if I send it through a Canopus advc110 box I can capture video OK. It is a solution but still slightly miffed that my expensive new Mac isn't as good as my old PC.
