Sony DW-U10A and 8x Memorex??? buffer underrun?

Someone please help.

I have a 1.6 Ghz g5 with the DW-U10A sony superdrive. I have never had any problems with media for the drive before now. I picked up some 8x Memorex dvd-r's at BB the other day and whenever I try to burn dvds (at 4x), I get an error like "the drive lost its buffer without buffer underrun protection" - I burn some old memorex 4x and they burn fine, so I know its not a software issue. Is there a firmware update for the sony drive?

frustrating as i bought 50 of the discs...help!

Did you check Sony's web site? What speed are you burning the 8x at? Which comes to the question, what software are you using to burn?
 
DW-U10A is OEM version of DRU500a. There are some (unfortunately PC only) utilities to patch firmware so it will make the drive DRU500a and then you can upgrade firmware further using firmwares that Sony provides.

I discovered this since I suddenly started having problems with the drive in my iMac G4 20" with almost any DVD-R I use and with Toast and Finder. It is strange that some DVDs are written OK and some are not.
