Soundtrack vs. GarageBand

Hey everyone,

I was thinking about buying iLife for GarageBand, but I just heard someone talking about Soundtrack the other day. I was wondering how great the difference is between these two programs. How much more powerful is Soundtrack compared to Garageband? Does it have the same format? Is Soundtrack worth the $200? Thanks for any help!

from what i understand soundtrack is strictly loops for say video, animation, and web, where as Garage Band is more for creating music including support for midi pianos and guitars. i may be wrong on that though. check apple's site there are very long descriptions of what both programs do

Soundtrack is designed for basic scoring using loops, but you can get pretty creative with it by creating loops using what you've recorded in Garageband and then importing them to Soundtrack. Soundtrack's effects plug-ins are a little nicer, too. If you want a real step-up from GarageBand, I'd say look at Logic Express 6.
