Speech recognition causes feedback

When I turn on speech recognition on my TiBook with 10.1, I get terrible feedback until I mute the volume. I'm sure it worked okay in 10.0.

Does this happen to anyone else?

I'll make a vote for not having this problem (so it's not universal). What are you using as sound in? It should not be playing through, whatever it is, so it is a very odd dilemma. I can't check now, but doing a search in Apple's help for the word "microphone" could yield something.
