speed up entourage

Anyone have tips for speeding up Entourage? I have both a 700MHz iBook 384MB RAM and Mirror 867MHz G4 512MB RAM and am getting terrible speeds in Entourage and Word. Opening mails takes forever... saving files in Word takes forever... deleting mails... opening the rules window in entourage takes a looooong time.... why????

WHAT CAN I DO TO SPEED UP ENTOURAGE?

Your experience sounds very different from mine. On my 500 mHz ibook, Word X (Test Drive) runs reasonably fast. Saves are quick. On my 800mHz G4 iMac, Word flies! I haven't used Entourage in a while, though.

Something sounds fishy. How much free space do you have on your hard drive? Do you have Norton Utilities? In my experience, NU's OS X programs are /were awful because they slowed down the machine terribly. I only use the OS 9 versions by booting in OS 9.

Yea mine is fast too, no problems here.

Hold down option as you launch Entourage next time. This will rebuild the database, making much of the disk access more effecient when it comes to sorting, viewing messages, renaming, deleting, etc.

Turn off excessive fonts to speed up launch times and font menu display.

Turn off text smoothing to realize the greatest speed boost.
