spotlight Could not reset volume index

I get this result each time I perform a mdutil command. I have rebooted, repaired permissions, fsck.

Delete the index: sudo mdutil -E /Volumes//Macintosh\ HD/
Turn indexing off: sudo mdutil -i off /Volumes//Macintosh\ HD/
Turn it on again: sudo mdutil -i on /Volumes//Macintosh\ HD/
Check the status: sudo mdutil -s /Volumes//Macintosh\ HD/

all return the same message.


suggestions on a direction?
 
10.4.x or 10.5.x?

Try OnyX and it's maintenance (periodic, caches, and its Spotlight reset).
