Is there a way to use spotlight or another app to list files on my mac from largest to smallest? It seems like I have less space available than I should and I'm trying to identify things to get rid of or put on my other computer on my network...

There is a great utility called "WhatSize" that does exactly what you are looking for - and as far as I remember, it is freeware.

Pretty cool little app!

Keep in mind, btw, that Apple says you'll need at least 10 % of your drive's capacity unused for OS X to run properly. (On many forums several people claim 20 % is more realistic.)

There's also Omni DiskSweeper
http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omnidisksweeper/download/
which scans your disk and shows you all the files and folders and their sizes.

It's not free, but it'll do the scan and tell you the size of all the files. You can then use the Finder to delete the files.

Hey Captain Code - thanks for the Disk Sweeper info... didn't know about this app.

However: have you checked out WhatSize? It does exactly the same thing, but you do *not* have to go to the Finder to delete stuff - you can do it from within the app.

No, I haven't tried it. If it does all that then there's really not much reason to use DiskSweeper.
