Spreading like wildfire...

Re: member
Since the WWDC developers version of Panther is released into the wild, this thing seems to be spreading like the subject matter above (how, I don't know  )...

Anyway, surely many more features must have been held back by Apple IMHO since, if this thing is out as a beta version from now until possibly December, the world and his wife are gonna have it, and get used to it.

Which means Apple needs a good incentive for people to purchase something which is essentially usable as is (although it should only be in the hands of 3500 developers).

Then again, maybe they want to probe reactions to features as the brushed metal finder etc. (ala public beta 10.0, where the Apple logo moved back to it's original position after an outcry).

Discuss... :p

They must have expected it to spread. This is getting around faster than any other beta from Apple.

Even if this version had all the features, I'd still buy the final version because I don't want to be running any beta/debugging code, and because Apple deserves the money for what they've done with this release.

I've already sent feedback to Apple about Panther and it's apps.

They probably knew that it'd be spreading fast so they made it somewhat stable by disabling a lot of the unfinished things.

One thing that's not included in the developer preview is FileVaults. And if there really are 100 new features, many more have been held back (what ever happened to piles? anyone think they might stil make it into Panther?)

Apple have a track record for leaving things out (read Minimise in Place)...

For the record, I too will be purchasing Panther. even if the beta was as close to the final one as was possible (gotta love Apple ;) )

Piles is still an awesome concept that I hope Apple may be working on. I loved minimize in place that was in some of the early builds of Jaguar.

It got cut but it could be a cool expose feature if you wanted all of your open windows iconized to the Desktop.

I will buy Panther no questions asked ASAP after its release! :D

I'm saying this because maybe here in my country Panther will get a month or so to be released because of possible greek localization! :(

I sincerely hope Apple will eventually include Smart Folders in Finder - I understand this feature has been somehow implemented into XCode, but in the Finder it would be very useful and sensible.

Well, I know that I'm a smart person (grrr HULK smash puny humans grrr) :p but what are the Smart Folders? And what do you mean it has been implemented into Xcode?

Let us know more about this, please! :D

If it was easier to get a hold of and didn't require me having to burn a CD with a program I don't have and haven't been able to acquire and will not pay for no matter what, I'd use it. I so want to use it. I JUST WANT A DATE!!!

Maybe Smart Folders like Smart Playlists, with aliasses / links to all files of a certain kind / date / size /project ... ? Just a guess... Shouldn't this be possible with some AppleScript? Or even via the CLI?
