Square screen

Is it possible to have a square screen image ? No rounded edge on the top left edge of the screen image (indeed on the menu bar) ?

Same thing for the title bar of the windows ? Anyway to have these with real square edges ?

Why would you ask ? I just bought a SyncMaster 172T and it looks so nice sharp square that I would like my screen image to be excatly as sharp.

My 17 Apple flat pannel is rouner on the two top corners and square on the two bottom corners... But I think that's because that's the shape the menu bar is...

I think the shape is given during start-up. The window defined as the screen has rounded corners at the top. I remember the Mac Plus had rounded corners at the 4 corners of the screen. That's very nice on a CRT, but I find it ugly on a sharp square LCD display.

So what I would like is a utility that would redefine the screen as being a square, with sharp corners.

That's a Classic thing. Ever since OS X it's not square anymore. Just the images that make the corner are.

It used to be that older Macs would actually black out the corners like that. Then they stopped with OS X. Also, in OS 9 when you used an LCD the corners would be square. And CRT's would be round.

Get a nice, Rhapsody-like theme at:

And of course a themer application. I recommend Duality 4:

It's still in beta, but I can confirm that it works without issues. Make sure you take the DE version, as I think the Preference Pane is something that doesn't yet work on all systems (meaning: It doesn't get installed at all).

Max has 'Squared Aqua' and 'Rhapsodized'. Here two screenshots:

I've tryed Duality 4, but it does not install on my machine (10.1.5, B&W G3). I'll try 3.1.1DE.

I prefer the old Root direction to installing Themes. Well.. only because I couldn't get Duality 4 to work since Jaguar came out. So I do it manually. Haven't had any problems yet.. except when I forgot to replace a file in Finder.app and it kept crashing. I was like "WTF? What did I do?" Then I looked inside and noticed the file was missing and I'm like "Oh! Duh!" I put it back in and it was all fine and dandy. LOL. I as freaked out for a minute. Not like I didn't have a backup or 7 to use on my FW HD.

i had to install duality 4 times to get it to work. the first two times because i didn't know it was a preferencepane (oops!) and the second two because it just wouldn't install.

I had problems installing Duality 4. It would install but wouldn't show up in System Preferences. When I deleted the System Preferences cache file and prefs everything was fine.
