Startup Items

How do you get an application to startup automatically after the computer boots up?
I dragged an alias of an application into:
Macintosh HD>System>Library>StartupItems
with no luck.

I am a single user on this computer with no other accounts.

PowerPC G5
Dual 2 GHz
512 MB DDR SDRAM
Mac OS X 10.4.2

I believe that the cure is dragging the application onto the dock (original or alias) and then click and hold the icon until a small menu pops up.
It usually says something like :
Remove from Dock
Open at Login
Show in Finder

so just click open at login. If this doesn't work then... uh, ask a genious. :\

haha I have the same computer as you :p

This can also be done through the System Preferences. Click the Accounts icon and then go to the Login Items tab. From there you can either drag what you want into, or press the + sign at the bottom to chose what you want to start on login.
