Startup/Shutdown Sounds

This is probably a no-brainer, but remember how you could put wavs in your shutdown or startup items folder in OS 9 and they'd play automatically each time you shut down or started up? Well, I'd like to do that with OS X. Anyone know what folder to put them in, or if there's another way to do it? The "Universal Mac Startup Chime" gets worn-out after awhile. Thanks for any help in advance.

From what ive seen on these forums is that the only way to mute the startup sound is to have your computer muted the last time you shut it down.

The start up sound pisses me off with my iBook because i always forget to mute it and then im in class and i have to look like an asshole when i start it up. That and some programs override the system sound setting and make a noise *everyone looks*.

I don'T know about any shutdown sound. But as for the startup sound:
hold the F3 key while booting and there won't be any sound.
