Stop "AFP connection status" window

How do I stop the "AFP connection status" from looking for networked machines that aren't networked?

When I close PEAK LE 5.2, it won't close because it brings up a window saying, "AFP connection status looking for..." and gives 10.0.1.3 or some similar address -- even when I haven't had any network connections. It's been doing it for months and my only "solution" is to Force Quit the application.

I just started to use anoher app, JuhOS X, and when it starts up, it shows the same window even though I know it's never been networked to any other computer so there can't be any pref files floating around which would require a network connection.

I have an iMac G5 running OS 10.4.8.

All Googling turns up are other people having the same problem (but with various other apps like Photoshop) but no solutions.
Any ideas?

What's the /etc/hosts file?

Account migration? I don't know what that is. I DO know that the latest program that brings the "AFP Connection" window up was installed only last week -- and brought up the indow the first time I ran it.

"How did your machine receive its OS install?" From the Apple Tiger cd. (A "real" Apple cd!)

...?

THanks for the interest!

Might want to specify the name of the application that was installed last week in case someone has had a similar experience after installing it, or knows of a bug fix for it...

If it was JuhOSX then, since the description indicates it shouldn't do anything with regard to AFP, I'd suspect something else.

Have you run any utilities on the drive to try to resolve it?

What message, exactly, shows up (write it down if you have to)?

Here's the window:

I agree -- JuhOSX shouldn't call AFP for anything I can think of, but it obviously does! ;-) But every time I start JuhOSX, it flashes the AFP window 5 or 6 times before it finally opens.

This behavior started immediately after downloading and starting up JuhOSX.

But this window ALSO appears (for the last year) whenever I run Bias Peak and try to close the program. Quitting is blocked by the same AFP window ("looking up" whatever). I always have to force wuit Bias. But until JuhOSX, I've never seen this window on a repeated basis.

I've tried seeing if Coctail can do anything (I couldn't get any results) and of course Restart as well as Disk Utility (permissions repaired and disk verified.) I'm can't remember anything else I tried.

Did you install the software from an external volume that is no longer present, or was there a server volume connected when you did the install?

If not, I'd check with the developer to find out how to completely remove the software from your machine (ALL of the files, wherever they are).
If that resolves the problem, then try reinstalling from a fresh download of their installer.
If it doesn't resolve the problem, you could be in for a bit of soup 'r slothing, er - super sloothing.

Launch Activity Monitor, show all processes and leave the app open. Now launch Console and leave it open.
Then launch the problematic application and see what you can find out from the output of Activity Monitor and Console.

That's all I got right now.

Guess what? I figured ut the problem! It's gone (in BOTH apps -- Boas Peak AND JuhOSX.)

Here's what happened: THIS time, when I launched JuhOSX, the AFP connect window didn't read some number (like 1.0.1.3) but "MacAddict 89". I haven't used that cd... well, forever! So I don't know why the recent install of JuhOSX would kick it into action. But I put in that old disk and booted JuhOSX and it started w/o a problem. THen I went through the whole cd and TOOK OUT every single program or pref associated w/ ANYTHING on that cd.

Rebooted my iMac -- started JuhOSX w/ no problem and (miracle of miracles) my Bias Peak Quit without the AFP window asking for another machine. Awesome!

Thanks for helping me along in this process!
