Strange checkerboard graphic glitch

Hi guys,

After running some fullscreen games for a while (around 1hr +) I start to get a strange graphical glitch that is similar to a checkerboard transparency. When exiting the game this continues into the GUI, and changes depending on where the mouse is placed. I've tried talking to Apple about it, but they have no idea asides from bringing it into the Genius bar (which, as the error is removed after a reboot and can only be replicated infrequently after hours of use, it's quite hard to show them)

I've attached some screenshots and would like to know if you guys reckon this is a hardware or software problem and what I can do about it.

Thanks!

(Oh and I'm running a brand new Macbook Pro, SL 10.6.4, 2.66GHz, 4GB Mem)

The artifacts that you see should be only caused by a hardware problem.

An Apple service shop (including your local genius) can run diagnostics that will likely fail because of a bad video chip.
