Strange color problem

I went to use my 1.4ghz Mac Mini the other day and noticed that the colors seem to be dithered. Gradients, such as the default wallpaper, now show steps and blotches where none previously existed. Photos now look especially bad.

I have checked my display preferences and my colors are set to millions. I have also re-calibrated the color profile for my monitor with no change.

I have an LCD monitor, and by all accounts it seems to be functioning just fine.

I have not installed any new programs.

Any ideas?

I just fixed a similar problem - my screen looked all wonky, like it had low res color settings or something. I found that the contrast setting in Universal Access was mysteriously mucked about. Try checking this, it may help. Otherwise, good luck....
