Strange console messages?

So I'm looking at my console, trying to see if it will offer any insight into this problem that I'm having, and I see a bunch of the following messages, repeated every minute or so, and going back all the way to the beginning of the log:

"Wearly I sit here, pain and misery my only companions."
"Ha, but my life is a box of wormgears."
"Pardon me for breathing, which I never do any way so I don't know why I bother to say it, oh God, I'm so depressed."
"My capacity for happiness, you could fit it into a matchbox without taking out the matches first."
"Funny, how just when you think life can't possibly get any worse it suddenly does."
"Life's bad enough as it is without wanting to invent any more of it."
"Do you want me to sit in the corner and rust, or just fall apart where I'm standing?"
"Would you like me to go and stick my head in a bucket of water?"
"I'm not getting you down at all, am I?"

Clearly my computer is suicidal, and this is a cry for help.
Seriously though, does anyone know the origin of these messages / have similar messages on their console?

I just reinstalled OS X (10.1.3) about a week ago (on a faster hard drive), so there's not *too* much weird stuff on the drive.

Those are all quotes from Marvin, the depressed robot from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. But I don't know what particular program is putting them in your log.
Whichever one it is, the developer(s) has one hell of a sense of humor!
:D

What if it's not a program doing it?
What if it's the computer with a mind of it's own?

It sounds like an...

X-File

I'd say something like fortune (only a HHGG-specific one) has been installed, and is being run on login.

Ok, mystery solved (sorry, no X file here :). I grep'ed the entire drive. It took a while, but I found out where it's coming from: the beta driver for my Logitech mouse.

*nice*

At least now I know where the reference is from, thanks.

Out of curiosity, how is the Logitech driver? I have a Logitech two button wheel mouse. The wheel and both buttons work fine for me, does this add anything much useful?

I believe they've removed that from the latest beta of their drivers.

The only reason I use their drivers at all is so I can set scroll-wheel-click to command-click to open links in new tabs in Mozilla.

That's a good idea!

I just set my MS Intellimouse to do that with the Intellipoint software.

Thanks for the suggestion! :D
