Strange Cursor

Running OSX 10.1.3 on a G3 Wallstreet Powerbook with 1/2 gigabyte memory. For some time now, before 10.1 was released, I have had two parallel vertical lines by my standard arrow cursor. They are about 1/2 inch long and 1/4 inch apart and are white when over a dark background and black over a white background. No idea how to fix this. The problem is there even after a complete wipe of the hard drive, several reinstallations, and even a PRAM zap in a desperate moment.

What the heck is this and how to I get my standard cursor back?

Thanks for any help.

Couldn't find the reset button, though on the back of the powerbook is the word "reset" over an indication of a key combination - fn+ctrl+shift+power-on. This is different than the normal PRAM combination of Apple+option+P+R. In any case, neither combination fixed the cursor problem. I wish I knew where the OS gets the information about the cursor. I don't think there is the equivalent of ResEdit for OS X; if there was, I'd poke around there.

Thanks for the suggestion in any case.
