Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone know how to fix it?
System boots up fine but after logging in, the background flashes between the generic blue, and the wallpaper. A message box briefly appears but then is wiped out by the blue screen - sometimes when I'm running another program it says something about minor problems found on the drive but that it is fixed. I could run programs listed in the dock (control panels, IE, clock), but could not open new windows or get to the terminal program.
I suppose I should have tried having the terminal program run at startup before I removed X from the drive. I had the same problem whether logged in as my username or as root. The problem persisted even after reinstalling X.
This is on a G4MP.
