Ciao all,

I would like to create a video streaming festival, as I know more about video editing then on streaming, I'd like to have some advices from one that I have already used the Videolan server.
Is it complicated to use ? Do you have some other suggestions for streaming ?
By advance thanks

what is a streaming video fetsival?
why videolan?
and is it going to be a festival on a local network?
or do you want the whole world to be able to participate/watch?

you can download QuickTime Broadcaster for free from apple's website
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/broadcaster/
with this you can start streaming camera's.

i've been using a dv-cam with analog>dv conversion to be able to stream a laptops' desktop, but you can also use ScreenBroadcasting (http://homepage.mac.com/rossetantoine/ScreenBroadcasting.html) to turn your desktop into a video-source QTBroadcaster can use as an input.
also, VideoLanClient can also stream your desktop if you just put screen:// instead of file:// or http:// in the source field...

and then there's also WireCast (http://www.varasoftware.com/products/wirecast/), which is a kind of super advanced Broadcaster, available for mac and pc.. but it's expensive.

anyway, there's a huge number of options.. can you be more specific?
i've organised a sort of streaming-video-festival once...

Thankx,
Well i haven't express myself very well. As there is not many opportunities of visibily for people doing video in art schools, the idea is to creat a flux for a limited time between some different schools. I thaught about using VLC/VLS as it is free.
Is it clearer?

hmm.

a bit clearer, but are you going to stream live stuff, like a TV-show, or serve on-demand files?

VLC/VLS could probably do that, but my knowledge is limited to streaming files or desktop on the local network with VLC. so cant't really help you much with that.

but if you have access to apple computers, using QTBroadcaster and Darwin Streaming server is also a free solution. QTBroadcaster is downloadbal for free, and Darwin is even open source.

anyway, if you could be more specific, and for instance draw a sort of scheme of what kind of situation you want to create, that would help a to understand what you exactly want...

I thaught about a stream live, that could be received by several viewer at the same time (50 for ex.) Art school are using Mac, so your solution is of interest. You wrote u did something as a video streming event...Tell me more.
