There is a good extension for Firefox that does exactly this. It is called VideoDownloader.

sweat... now i just need a converter from .flv to .avi...
anyone got one thats free, i've only run into sharewear that converts really nice, but i'm a poor college student i have no money to spear.

I use MPlayer to play FLVs (see my sig for a link).
Google Video lets you download the movies as AVI to begin with, so you don't need anything fancy there. They're not QT-compatible AVIs (no, not even with Divx installed), but they play fine in MPlayer or VLC.
ffmpegX and iSquint can both convert FLV files to many different formats.
You can find all the apps I've mentioned by searching at http://www.macupdate.com
