Subscribing to threads

When I participate in a thread, I'd like to see when someone has replied. I therefor click at the "subscribe to this thread"-button. Then I can easily access the threads from my user cp. - But at the same time, my mailbox gets filled up, which is not very nice. Is it possible to only subscribe to the threads to my cp (not to my mailbox)? I suppose I could remove my e-mail, but it's actually not a good solution. Or is it a feature for this on the board that I haven't seen? :)

Hi,
Go to your CP, select edit options, under "messaging and notification" part there is a selection of "Use Email Notification by default?" Choose "no" for it.
That should do the trick.

That just means that you won't be automagically subscribed to the threads you post to. If you do subscribe to a thread, you'll still get the email.

Perhaps a client side filter, Kris? Everything from MacOSX.com goes into a folder, so your Inbox is still uncluttered...

Ok. I got it. I thought that would cancel all the mails you could get.
But there is a sentence in the mail I got for this thread mentioning;
"There may be other replies also, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the board again."

So the mail box shouldn't get crowded.

And that was my first post to the forum but I couldn't help. :(
Not a good start.

Don't worry about it. Welcome to MacOSX.com, btw.

But we were just talking about first posts -- mine was in relation to opening an iMac:
I guess a hammer's out of the question, huh?

No, no, stop hitting me! It was a joke! I'm sorry!

:D

Oh, yeah, and the "but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the board again" message isn't entirely accurate, in my experience. Sometimes I'd get another email on top of the one I had on the same thread.

But basically what that message means is that you'd get an email for the first new message posted to a thread, and no more until you visited the board. After you visit the board, you'd get another email for the next new message. And so on...

Did your solution work? :p

There should definitely be a way around the mail-notification. The admins, or the owners of the board, should add this feature if it's possible.
What do you guyes do? Do you subscribe to the threads or do you just remember the theads you partcipated in? I keep forgetting, that's why I subscribe to them. Oh, and thanks for your replies guys. :)

Kris

I used to subscribe to threads, but I turned that off because I don't need Mail.app beeping every 3 minutes :D

I just use the view new threads (or whatever it says) button on the front page, works like a charm. :)

Ya, what dricci said.

No subscriptions just "Search for new posts". Which is why I get confused when someone says "Oops, I posted this in the wrong forum." I see it anyway, so...

Kris

I subscribe.
For forums, I use a different e-mail address which I check just when I want to read forums. So it doesn't disturb my daily work.
